Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital - Driving Assessment and Training Program

Northeast Rehab offers a comprehensive Driving Program for people who have had an illness, injury, or age related decline in skills that could affect their ability to drive safely. Individuals who are appropriate for this program include, but not limited to:


  • CVA (stroke)
  • Head Injury
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Amputation
  • Orthopedic Injuries
  • Neurological diagnosis
  • Age Related Changes
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Arthritis
  • Cerebal Palsy
  • Visual Impairment
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Autism Spectrum
  • Post-polio Syndrome
  • Guillian-Barre

  • The Driving Program consist of a Clinical Pre-Driving Screening and an In-Car Driving Evaluation*. The Clinical Assessment screens skills that are important for competent driving, including Visual, Cognitive, Physical, and Reactionary skills, along with Interpretation of Road signs. The In-Car assessment assesses driving skills, application of traffic rules and regulations, adaptive equipment needs and independence in the community. for the Novice driver, it assesses their potential to learn the skills necessary for driving. Recommendations are then made to meet the client's needs.

    * A physician referral is required.
